Ricci was first recognized for her work as a child actress due to her portrayals of Wednesday Addams and Addams Family Values (both 1993) in The Addams Family and as Kat Harvey, in Casper. Ricci began to play the roles of an adult after The Ice Storm (1997) then followed by The Opposite of Sex, in which Ricci earned a Golden Globe Award nomination as Best Actress. Ricci continued to be successful by making well-received appearances in Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Monster (2003).
